What is o-bento?
Saturday, November 3, 2012 @ 5:46 AM | 0 Comment [s] ![]() Today I am going to introduce one of my hobbies. Which is bento-ing! I will explain all about it in today's post. O-bento started in Asia, in the country Japan. To be exact it started in the year 1603 - 1867 ( Azuchi-Momoyama Period) back then bento boxes were made of wood and served at Hanai (Which is a flower viewing ceremony in Japan) and tea parties. Bento went through a lot of different transformations and changes, and now today people make bento's worldwide. Bento boxes have compartments or are layered in multiple boxes. Because of this it is much easier to organize different type of foods in the boxes. The goal of bento is to pack as much as healthy food as possible. Doing bento would be a good idea for people who want to lose weight! But bento is also for people who just want to improve their eating pattern and want to eat healthier. A bento is made out of rice, fish or meat and vegetables. A traditional bento includes: 1 part proteïne, 2 parts vegetable, 3 parts carbohydrate But you don't have to commit to those rules! In Asia it is normal to eat rich as breakfast or lunch, and us people here in the 'west' mostly eat other things for breakfast. For example pancakes, oatmeal, bread etc. Just be creative, but healthy! Labels: healthy lunch, japan, japanese food, o-bento |
